Paper is Mulberry:
15" X 14"
11" X 9.5
This print is a symbol-rich one, commissioned for a friend who lives in the Pacific Northwest, but grew up in Hawaii and misses it every day. I want this print to embody strength and vitality, and a reminder that life will always find a way to bring happiness. This is a reminder that home is where you make it. I carved this block with love and imbued it with strength.
The skeleton is a leatherback turtle, generally found further out from the islands , just like my friend. Turtles symbolizes good luck, endurance and long life and can be a person's guardian spirit. A turtle is also well known for its navigational strength; when lost, he can always find his way home. On the turtle's back, evergreen trees bring the northwest with him, wherever he goes, and behind are the Cascades, very different scenery than the fiery volcanoes of Hawaii. The border is alternating fish scales, for protection, and shark teeth, for shelter, strength, and guidance. The ocean waves symbolize life, persistence, and mystery. At each corner is a circle, symbolizing home.
Each print is hand inked, hand pressed, signed and numbered in the edition. If you wish to have a certain number in the edition please message me directly and I can let you know if it is still available. The block of this print is a cutting board, available in the Cutting Boards section of my shop.
